I will admit, that I didn’t buy into the Kylie Cosmetics hype right away. I actually didn’t start purchasing her products until 2016 when I was in search for a long-lasting lipstick. You know, the kind that stays on through eating and drinking and basically lasts all day. Do they exist? I was on a mission since all the lipsticks I’ve ever tried always came off rather quickly and I had to constantly reapply throughout the day.
And because of the hype and the amount of people who were raving about Kylie’s lip kits, I thought I’d give it a try. And I know, either you’re a little skeptical of a famous celebrity’s products or a die-hard fan that has to have everything the Kardashian-Jenners comes out with. For me, I 99% of the time fall within the former category, but if your product works, I will buy it. But that also means I need to spend some money in order to try it. I don’t mind – as I love testing out new products.
So I decided to buy a few of Kylie Cosmetics lipsticks. In 2016, there definitely wasn’t as many choices available as they do now so I tried some of the more popular colors at that time for testing: Candy K and Koko K in the matte liquid lipsticks and Like and Literally in the liquid glosses. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of glosses but I thought I’d give it a try. And honestly, I was sold on the packaging and maybe even the advertising at the time.
My First Impressions Of Kylie Cosmetics Liquid Lipsticks
I was really looking forward to receiving my orders because of the cute packaging and the different postcards I’d get with them. As well as finally being to see what the hype is about! After I tried my first order and tested the liquid lipsticks and lip glosses out, I thought that the matte liquid lipsticks were amazing because of how long-lasting they were. And there were a lot of pinks and neutral shades that I really liked. With the lip glosses, I found that they were sticky and I had to keep reapplying throughout my day. The colors were a little more transparent than I liked, but that’s to be expected for a gloss. All the lip products seem to have the same light vanilla scent which is nice. Overall, I was pretty impressed and was ready to start trying more colors. I was never able to find a lip product I loved and the Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipsticks were pretty much it.
The Obsession Is Real
I quickly started getting obsessed with the matte liquid lipsticks and continued to buy different colors. And as new collaborations and launches happened, I kept stocking up. Especially when they were limited edition. I bought 3 or 4 sets of the Send Me More Nudes (my favorite collection) and the Koko Kollection. I’m happy I did as some colors were limited edition or discontinued.
I loved that Kylie Cosmetics was constantly coming out with new lipstick shades and formulas and that they lasted all day with only one application most of the time. With most colors, I was able to get through the day without having to reapply. For some colors, usually the lighter ones, I usually only had to reapply once. Reapplication is needed when the lip color is too dry on me and started to crease or when I eat foods that are too oily. This didn’t happen too often.
I purchased a lot of the matte liquid lipsticks as there were new releases quite often, and then I started getting interested in the metals and velvets as well. And I kept purchasing for the next several years until I got so many stocked up that I had to take a pause so my current lipsticks won’t go bad. Still, my go-to and repurchases will be the matte liquid lipsticks since they last so long on my lips. I prefer buying the singles as opposed to the lip kits because 1) they are cheaper 2) I almost never use lip liner. But if you do purchase a lip kit or the lip liners separately, it will give your lipstick even more staying power.
Would I Repurchase Kylie Cosmetics Lipsticks?
There are several Kylie Cosmetics matte liquid lipsticks I would repurchase and have as a staple in my lipstick collection. I have listed my favorite shades below and will repurchase the ones that are still available. But after more than 5 years I’m ready to continue my search again as I am starting to find that these lipsticks are getting a bit drying for me. Either way, I think they’re super long lasting and have great neutral shades.

Wear Time Of The Kylie Cosmetics Lipsticks
As I’ve mentioned above, a majority of the matte liquid lipsticks literally last all day. I don’t have to reapply even after I eat or drink most of the time. Of course, it depends on what I eat. When I eat noodle soup, this tends to come off quicker due to the oils in the soup and will need reapplication. Some of the lighter colors like Naked, will crease during the day and it might be a little more obvious because it is so pale. I will either just reapply this once, put a gloss over it, or just put a different Kylie Cosmetics liquid lipstick over it and change my lip color.
Also, since these lipsticks do last very long, sometimes it is difficult to remove. I like to use my MakeUp Eraser cloth at the end of the day to quickly and easily remove my Kylie Cosmetics lipsticks (especially the matte ones). Sometimes, when I’m on the go or traveling, I will use makeup removing wipes like The Honest Beauty Makeup Remover Wipes and the Ole Henriksen Truth On The Glow Cleansing Cloths. I’ve used a lot of different brands but these 2 are my favorite so far.
For the velvet liquid lipsticks, lip glosses, and matte lipsticks, I find that there is almost no staying power at all. The velvet liquid lipsticks do hold up a little better but reapplication a couple times throughout the day is needed. Just because of this reason, these are not my favorite formulas by Kylie Cosmetics.
Minor Problems With Kylie Cosmetics Lipsticks
This may be expected with all companies, as defects are bound to happen. I think with the amount of products I’ve purchased from Kylie Cosmetics, these problems were minor. But I did want to disclose it as it was part of my Kylie Cosmetics lipstick experience.
- A couple of the lip glosses I received had frayed brush tips on the applicator. I was able to have customer service resend me one or two, but when it happens more than once, they usually won’t replace it. I just had to use a tweezer and pull out the ones that stick out so I can apply my lip gloss properly.
- The first matte lipstick I purchased was Almost Friday. And because I buy so many products, I tend to stock up and not come back to them until months later when I need to use it. So when I finally opened this up, I realized the smell was so strong, and quite frankly, bad. It smelled like rubber and no matter how much I tried to clean it, the smell didn’t go away. It was really nauseating. And because I contacted customer service more than 48 hours after my purchase (I think it might have been 15 days prior to COVID), they said they can’t do anything about it. So I was stuck with a bad lipstick.
Packaging Redesign And Product And Brand Updates
Kylie Cosmetics is going through some changes with new packaging and a new clean standard today, on July 15th.
For their matte liquid lipsticks, Kylie Cosmetics shared that they will be ultra-pigmented, have an 8 hour wear time (which I feel like they already do), is budge resistant and best of all, a clean and vegan formula. They also won’t be overly drying which was one of the most important things when reformulating these lipsticks.
There will be 37 matte lip kit shades (7 of my favorite ones are here) and 30 high gloss shades. The Kylie Cosmetics lip liners comes in 8 shades and will also have a 24 hour wear. They also pair well with any of the matte, velvet and gloss formulas.
The entire Kylie Cosmetics brand will be clean, vegan and cruelty free and with ingredients good for the skin without sacrificing quality, pigmentation or performance.
At this moment, a lot is hush hush, so I’m excited to see all the new releases this year. I will wait until a larger part of my Kylie Cosmetics lipstick inventory depletes before I replenish with the new formula. But some of these matte liquid lipsticks will be a must-have for my makeup collection.
