What I dread most about washing my hair is actually brushing it. Ever since I was a kid (remember those L’Oréal Kids fish days?), I’ve used hair detangling sprays for the persistent tangles after I wash my hair. I’ve tried lots of hairbrushes and they’ve all snagged and pulled at my hair, painfully. Finally, enter the best detangling hairbrush for stubborn knots: Wetbrush – The Detangler. One of my best friends that worked with me back in my Beauty Supply Outlet days recommended this to me and I’ve never stopped using it since.
Current State Of My Hair
I have somewhat thick hair and after years of coloring it since grade 7, I luckily still have decently healthy hair. It’s not super dry or damaged but, it’s not the best condition that I’d like it to be in. I think the amount of color processing that’s been done to my hair has also made it more prone to tangles as moisture is lost during the process. And while I’m still “young”, I’ve decided in the past 2 years that I’d like to go back to my natural hair color and take advantage of it while I still can. But it will take quite some time to reverse the damage done and to get healthier hair again.
When To Use A Detangling Hairbrush
Once I started using the Wetbrush, I knew it was a game changer for me and a hair must-have that I can’t go without. Why? Because no other hairbrush has detangled my hair painlessly and quickly! One time I was on vacation and I completely forgot to pack a brush and let me tell you, it was a nightmare trying to detangle the knots in my hair after every wash with my fingers.
I normally use my detangling hairbrush right after I wash my hair while it is still wet. This is so that my hair doesn’t set into those knots if I air dry or blow dry it. As my hair starts to dry, I find it is harder to detangle and kind of keeps the shape of the mess. So the sooner you can brush, the better. Also, because the hair is wet, it makes it a little easier to brush through as well.
Of course, you can use this when your hair is dry as well. It’s the only brush I use really and quickly gets rid of any knots that come from sleeping.
Introducing The Best Detangling Hairbrush
The Wetbrush Detangler is plastic brush and is quite light and it has soft bristles. It looks like a regular hairbrush but doesn’t feel like one in the way that it painlessly detangles hair. Its handle is easy to hold and is comfortable to use. This brush is also great for all hair types. The fun part about this brush is that it comes in all sorts of colors and patterns. I’ve seen the Disney Princess versions at Ulta Beauty where it’s made out of wood so it’s slightly higher quality than the regular ones (and a little more expensive). It also comes in a regular size and a mini size and works great for both adults and kids alike.
The Longevity Of The Wetbrush
I owned 9 Wetbrushes, 8 of which I still have. I keep at least 2 Detanglers as backups/backstock, 1 Detangler that I leave in Miami, 1 Detangler to use at home, 1 Tourmaline Round Brush and 3 minis that I just purchased in a pack that came with The Detangler, Pop & Go Speed Dry, and Shine Enhancer. My first Wetbrush Detangler lasted me about 5 years I would say. Then the bristles start going into the brush itself and doesn’t stay up anymore so there’s less effort being put into brushing out tangles evenly. The finishes on the brush that I’ve come across are matte, plastic, and wood. Depending on the finish, the color may rub off over time. This happened to the my matte silver and matte purple Wetbrush. This has not happened with the regular plastic ones.
Cost Of Detangling Hairbrush & Where To Buy It
I think the Wetbrush is super affordable, considering that you can find them at a really good price range based on where you go and it lasts a really long time. But still, as I always say: shop around and find the best deal. The most expensive Wetbrush Detanglers I’ve seen are around $16 USD at Ulta Beauty for the wooden Disney Princess Wetbrushes. (Aside from some Amazon ones where sellers just price things so ridiculously sometimes – I’ve seen $20 plus $15 shipping.) The regular plastic ones are about $18 CAD in other stores. But, the good thing is, you can find Wetbrushes at a big discount. That’s also why I buy a few for backup since the patterns are so unique and you can’t find them everywhere. The past few years, I’ve purchased my Wetbrushes at Lisa’s Cosmetics Wholesale (this sale used to happen twice a year in person in Markham, Ontario) for about $7-8 CAD, Winners for about $6-7 CAD, and TJ Maxx for $4 USD in store. If you are looking to purchase online, you can also visit Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kohl’s and Ulta Beauty.
To Buy Or Not To Buy?
This Wetbrush Detangler has been a life saver and has been the best detangling hairbrush to get rid of stubborn knots for me. It’s works so well that I purchase multiple backups, got a friend hooked on it, as well as have gifted some. And they were very satisfied with the Wetbrush as well. Also, considering the low price point that you can get it for, I think it’s worth trying out if you have really stubborn tangles like I do.
