Removing my makeup at the end of the day has always been a drag. And that’s why I sometimes stay up so late since I procrastinate on this step. I love doing my skincare routine at the end of the day, but removing my makeup is the hardest part. If I’m using waterproof makeup, it’s harder to take off if I’m not using an oil-based makeup remover. If I want to remove my makeup quickly, I tend to veer towards using makeup removing wipes. But this can start to get expensive (compared to using cotton and makeup remover) and it’s not the best for the environment as it’s the third most wasteful product in the world. I try to only use the disposable makeup wipes for when I’m traveling or for extra-long days where I need to get my makeup off fast. But I found that the MakeUp Eraser helps all of my makeup removing problems with only a cloth and water!
What Is The MakeUp Eraser?
So what is this magical makeup remover that only needs water to remove all your makeup?! It’s an antibacterial, premium polyester cloth that has millions of tiny fibers that works like a suction cup to pull all makeup off of the skin. And each of these fibers are 50-100 times thinner than a human hair! The MakeUp Eraser is great for all skin types to help remove all of your makeup at the end of the day – stress free. It basically feels like a soft fleecy. One side has short fibers to help remove your makeup. And the other side with long fibers helps exfoliate the skin and remove any other makeup that has been left over from the first run. The Original MakeUp Eraser cloth is 15.5 inches by 7.25 inches and allows for plenty of space to remove face and eye makeup easily. All you have to do is soak the cloth in warm water and place on your eyes for a few seconds to help break down the makeup, and start cleaning your eyes and face in a circular motion. Just remember to wash this before you use it the first time, just like you do for most of your clothing. Especially since you’re using this on a delicate and prized real estate on your skin!
7 Benefits Of The MakeUp Eraser
Here are some reasons why this makeup removing cloth is beneficial for you and the environment. If you’re weighing the pros and cons and hesitating to purchase because of the $25 CAD price tag, it’s really an easy decision to make.
- First of all, it is an antibacterial cloth. You don’t have to worry about it being unhygienic. Of course, don’t forget it to wash it once a week for best practice.
- You only need warm water. This cloth removes all makeup including waterproof makeup! Surprising right? Since waterproof makeup can be quite difficult to remove depending on the brand and product.
- Using the MakeUp Erase creates less waste. You won’t have to buy cotton balls or pads or have your makeup remover soak into the cotton and cause wastage of product. And you can replace your makeup removing wipes as they are usually non-biodegradable and can even be harsh on your skin.
- It’s sustainable. The MakeUp Eraser lasts 3-5 years and can be washed 1000 times. You can easily throw it in the laundry machine with your colored items.
- It doubles as a face and lip exfoliator.
- This reusable makeup removing cloth saves money. If you’re spending about $10-15 (for a decent brand) for a pack of 30 makeup wipes, this will save you quite a bit of money for 3-5 years. You can also save on buying cotton and makeup removers as well! Makeup removers can get quite expensive. For a brand like Lancôme or Estée Lauder or similar brands, you’re looking at a price range of $40 CAD +.
- There are many colors to choose from as well as two different sizes. MakeUp Eraser knows how to make it fun for you and aesthetically pleasing as well. It comes in a variety of colors as well as limited edition colors and patterns. There’s also the original size which I had mentioned above, and a smaller size that can be used for just the eye area.
My Experience With The MakeUp Eraser
So the question is, does the MakeUp Eraser really work? It must be too good to be true that I can remove all my makeup – including waterproof – with only a cloth and warm water.
Well, I’ve been using the MakeUp Eraser for about 2-3 years now and I’ve never looked back. I purchased the Original MakeUp Eraser in the black color at Sephora. After the first use, I was thoroughly surprised, impressed, and excited that the MakeUp Eraser does work! Even on waterproof makeup. I’ve definitely spent much less on makeup wipes, my Shiseido cotton pads, and makeup removers since using the MakeUp Eraser.
I will say, that I don’t use this every single day. Either I’m not wearing makeup every single day or on the rare occasion, I just opt to use a makeup removing wipe. I will however, still wash this cloth at least once a week. Just to make sure I’m keeping up with hygiene standards and for my own peace of mind. I also have a spot in my shower where I’m able to hang this so I can hang it up to dry after each use. Even by doing this, and either machine drying or hanging to dry, the cloth started to have that unpleasant damp/wet smell. I’m not sure why as I’m very careful with it and clean it often. When this happened (only once), I threw the MakeUp Eraser into the laundry and washed it with vinegar and baking soda and the smell was gone. It hasn’t come back so let’s hope it stays that way!
This cloth has been great for removing all my makeup, I would say 95% of the time. Depending on the beauty product I have on my eyes, sometimes it’s hard to get the tiny little piece left, especially if it was glue for my false lashes. If I haven’t cleaned my eyes good enough with the MakeUp Eraser, sometimes I’ll have a wee bit of a black eyeliner or mascara residue under my eyes. This is of course, totally on me and not the cloth itself. When this happens, I just use cotton with a little bit of makeup remover or micellar water to clean it up better.
Not only does the MakeUp Eraser help with removing my makeup, I definitely find that it exfoliates my lips. When I’m wearing the Kylie Cosmetics matte liquid lipsticks, they can actually be quite difficult to remove. With this cloth, I’m able to remove everything as well as the dried or dead skin on my lips. It kind of acts like a scrub so I don’t have to take the extra step in using a lip scrub that day.
So is this cloth harsh? I will say no if you are being mindful of how you use the MakeUp Eraser and are gentle towards yourself. I like to remove my makeup as quick as possible but I am definitely gentle with this on my eyes. Sometimes, I admit that I do “scrub” a little harder than I should on my lips. This causes it to feel a little raw, but honestly, Kylie Cosmetics matte liquid lipsticks have some strong staying power. When I’m not using the MakeUp Eraser, I use a makeup removing wipe to remove the lipstick. I don’t scrub so hard with this as it already has some makeup remover built into it.
Overall, I think the MakeUp Eraser is a great investment and helps you actually save a lot of money in the long run. The fact that it works makes it all worth it. Also knowing that it helps the environment is a plus. I’ve since left my black MakeUp Eraser in Miami to use when I’m there and have purchased 3 more for home use and as backstock in a plum color when I saw them on sale one time at Winners. This is a rare occurrence and I highly doubt I’ll see it again.
