When you’re on the go during your travels and need to follow a particular itinerary with little time to spare, or where you don’t have access to the basic luxuries of getting a coffee or energy drink, there need to be other convenient alternatives for a caffeine boost when traveling. If you don’t get enough sleep, get the best quality of sleep on your trip, or are just used to having a cup of joe every morning, it might be really hard to get through the day without some caffeine. And when you’re really traveling – like exploring and adventuring through new lands with a goal of visiting every place possible – it does take quite a bit out of you. And oftentimes, you may be looking for an energy boost to get you through the rest of the day.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve found the perfect snacks for a caffeine boost when traveling and it is very convenient to carry with you and consume, plus it’s tasty. This may come very useful whether you’re traveling, or in need of a daily caffeine boost when carrying liquids with you isn’t possible – and I’m all about convenience and not wasting time. I don’t get coffee too often, but when I do, it takes me forever to finish it and it gets annoying to have to carry an extra item in my hand when I would like to snap photos with my camera instead. Coffee is also a diuretic and no one wants to look for a bathroom when there are things to do and places to see! Check out my favorite alternatives for a caffeine boost when traveling and see why they’re so good!
Verb Energy Caffeinated Snack Bars
I found Verb Caffeinated Snack Bars through one of the influencers on Instagram and it really intrigued me how good they spoke about how well these energy bars worked and how yummy they are. They offer a variety of delicious flavors with new ones coming out all the time. One small bar has as much caffeine as a cup of espresso and gives a jitter-free energy boost. They’re also vegan and gluten-free.
They’re easy to carry with you everywhere and anywhere, especially as an emergency snack, and it has been such a convenient way to get a boost of energy when I need it. I like packing the Verb Energy Bars for road trips and for my international travels as well. I especially like that I don’t have to worry about having liquids on me or worry about them melting. This makes the Verb Energy Bars one of the best snacks for caffeine boosts when traveling. In addition to their energy bars, Verb also has caffeinated protein bars and drink mixes available too.
Currently, they are only shipping to the US, but they are working on making them available internationally as well. I shipped mine to our address in Florida, so if you really want to try them out and are outside of the US but plan to visit sometime, you can send your order to your US destination ahead of your arrival. They’re definitely worth a try!
When I first purchased the Verb Energy Bars, they had the following benefits:
- 65 mg of caffeine from organic green tea
- 90 calories
- Smaller than the size of a granola bar
Here are some of the features and benefits of the new and upgraded Verb Energy Bars:
- 80 mg of caffeine from organic green tea
- Less than 110 calories
- Slightly bigger than before with 20% more caffeine
My Experience
The first time I ordered Verb Energy Bars, I chose a variety pack of their most popular flavors and then ordered the larger packs of the flavor I ended up liking a lot. Any inquiries you may have, ordering your energy bars, your shipping information, and even changing or cancellation of your subscription can be done through text messaging easily. Shipping takes between 3 to 5 days and has a flat rate of $6.95 USD, but if you order over $50 USD or any starter kit, shipping is free. If you aren’t satisfied with your order, you have 14 days for a free return for your first Flex purchase.
I loved the small size of their caffeinated snack bars and I had them with me in my purse, my backpack during my travels, and sometimes even a couple in my car. They not only gave me a caffeine boost when traveling, but they also helped stave off my hunger sometimes. They’re quite tasty and there are so many flavors to choose from depending on your preferences.
Awake Chocolate
I discovered the Awake Chocolate on my recent trip to Canmore and Banff, Alberta. I purchased the individual milk chocolate and peanut butter flavors as I just wanted to give them a try and see if chocolates can actually give me a caffeine boost. I was also going on hikes every day and thought this would be convenient when I’m in the middle of the woods.
The Awake Chocolates are vegan, gluten-free, trans-fat free, non-GMO, and have no artificial colors or flavors. They are just small chocolate bites about 1.5 inches in size and come in 5 flavors which make them extremely easy to take in your bag, even if you wanted to take a couple with you. But keep in mind that they are chocolate and can melt in hot weather. However, I still think they’re great to have year-round and especially so when the temperature is not chocolate-melting hot. But if it is hot out, I would eat these earlier in the day. I know it’s also hard to eat chocolate first thing in the morning so these would be great for a midday or end-of-day caffeine boost when traveling.
Awake Chocolate ships to both Canada and the US and some international addresses and if you spend over $50 CAD or USD, shipping is free.
Here are some of the features and benefits of Awake Chocolate:
- 50 mg of caffeine per chocolate – 2 chocolates make up a full cup of coffee
- 90 calories or less
My Experience
I tried the Awake Chocolate after a hike I did in Alberta and I was surprised by how good they tasted it and the quick energy boost it gave me after a tiring adventure outdoors. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his peanut butter chocolate bite as well and we liked it so much that I bought the Variety Mix Box with 50 chocolate bites and the Milk Chocolate Bars. The shipping was so quick and I received my order in about 2 days.
The next time we used it was during a hike we had in Ontario and we definitely felt the effects of an energy boost. I’m surprised with how well it works and I feel that it was even more energizing than the Verb bars. I usually eat just 1 of these after hiking and it really helped awaken me. For the days when I’m extra tired, I eat 2 twice a day and it fully gives me a great caffeine boost when traveling, especially when I’m doing long road trips. These are a lifesaver and are one of my favorite snacks for caffeine boosts when traveling.
Overall, I highly recommend trying both the Verb Energy Bars and Awake Chocolate if you like the convenience and want an emergency caffeine boost. They are also great alternatives to coffee and energy drinks if you like something quick and light to carry around with you. And you can’t go wrong with something so delicious!
