What Is BoxyCharm And How Does It Work?
What It Is
BoxyCharm is a popular monthly beauty subscription box that is widely promoted by many celebrities and influencers. But aside from these well-known endorsements, it holds its own with coveted beauty brands that they potentially offer in each box. Who wouldn’t want more bang for their buck? That’s why I love trying out subscription boxes – although there may be a few products that you haven’t heard of or don’t particularly want, a couple products from a higher end brand makes up for the entire box through its value and the price you pay! All you have to do is fill in a detailed survey of the kind of products you like and want to receive so that they can customize your BoxyCharm as much as possible. Within 20 days, you should be receiving your box of goodies!
I found that their website is a little bit confusing to navigate through to find the information you want when you’re first signing up for a box, so the below information will help you break it down a lot easier and basically get to the point.
What You Get
In each BoxyCharm Base box, you’ll receive 5 full-size beauty items that can include makeup, skincare, and beauty tools which are valued at over $175 USD. Before your box ships out, you’ll also have options to purchase add-ons at a lower price point. In terms of payment, you have the option for a month-to-month plan, and 3, 6, or 12-month prepaid options which allows you to save a little money. You’ll be billed for your first box on the day you subscribe and your next payment will be scheduled for the first day of the next month, which makes it easy to remember!
Here are the different tiers that you can subscribe to:
Tier | BoxyCharm Base | BoxyCharm Premium | BoxyCharm Luxe |
Price Per Month | $25 USD | $39.99 USD | $59.99 USD |
Full-Size Items | 5 | 6 | This mega-box replaces your Base box and has 8 full-size beauty, skincare, and lifestyle items depending on when you sign up. |
Special Note | – | – | The BoxyCharm Luxe is a seasonal upgrade that happens every March, June, September, and December. For your first Luxe box, depending on when you join the Luxe Waitlist, your Luxe box will either replace your Base box OR ship in addition to your Base box. |
What Is The Shipping Cost?
It is free to ship to the United States, but if you’re shipping to Canada, you’ll pay about $5 USD for the BoxyCharm Base and $8 USD for the BoxyCharm Premium.
Unfortunately at this time, BoxyCharm does not ship outside of these 2 countries.
How Much I Paid And The Value I Received
I signed up for the BoxyCharm Base subscription just so I can try it out and get a feel of what I would be getting. Upon sign-up I was able to get a discount code so instead of the normal $25 USD, I was able to pay $13.38 USD including taxes. I also purchased 2 add-ons which included the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Boost 360º Eye Cream in full size for $9 USD and the Farmacy Very Cherry Bright 15% Clean Vitamin C Serum With Acerola Cherry for $12 USD which was a huge discount from purchasing them full price! And I just love a good deal.
To avoid paying shipping fees to Canada (also because our exchange rate is terrible), I chose to ship my BoxyCharm to my address in Florida.
I received my 6 full-sized products (I think brushes don’t count as 1 of the 5) with a value of $253 USD and the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Boost 360º Eye Cream add-on that I paid for separately, but I did not receive the Farmacy serum I really wanted to try out. I actually didn’t notice this until a month later when I returned to Canada since I had a stockpile of beauty products that I had ordered and shipped to Florida prior to me arriving and just didn’t notice. I was too excited with opening all my packages.
I contacted customer service as I was writing this blog post and notified them, not really expecting anything since it’s been a month already. But they replied to me within 20 minutes and said they would love to send me a replacement, but since they’re out, they offered me a refund instead. I was impressed with their quick and easy service, as that would probably have been the deciding factor on whether or not I’ll continue with this subscription in the future. Because, don’t you just hate it when you order something and you’re so excited to receive it but it never comes?
Tip: Keep an eye out for discount codes or a free product upon subscribing!
What’s In My BoxyCharm Box?
Dr. Brandt Triple Antioxidant Face Cream – $64 USD. This moisturizer helps improve hydration and protect against internal and external aggressors that contribute to dullness and premature aging.
GlamGlow YouthMud Glow Stimulating Treatment Mask – $60 USD. This intensive exfoliating clay mask instantly smoothes and polishes the skin to produce soft and glowing skin in as little as 10 minutes.
Pinky Rose Cosmetics Duo Hip Hop & Jazz Base Stick – $20 USD. They are multi-use makeup sticks and can be used as eyeshadow or even as an eyeshadow primer.
Elaina Badro Baby Blues Set – $58 USD. I think this brush set was specifically made for BoxyCharm since I wasn’t able to find this on their own website. This set includes 3 limited edition synthetic makeup brushes (Contour Brush, BB Blending Brush, and Small Angled Brush) that comes in a tan travel pouch.
Georgette Klinger Marula Primer – $32 USD. This primer preps your skin for an all-day radiant finish, locks in moisture, depuffs, soothes, and provides a barrier between your skin and makeup.
Mannakadar Hydrating Face Mist – $19 USD. This hydrating face mist is full of minerals and is great for reviving tired skin and has soothing benefits. You can use this as a hydrating base before makeup, set your makeup, and reduce shine as well.
Is BoxyCharm Worth Buying?
For what I had purchased my BoxyCharm for, it is 100% worth the money to get products valued at $253 USD. But if we’re taking into consideration the $25 USD a month for 5 full-size products and no shipping fee, then this is absolutely a fun beauty box to subscribe to if you don’t have a lot of beauty products. A lot of the times I need to cancel mine for a while since I’m so stocked up on all types of beauty products that I get from multiple places.
For those in Canada, the shipping fee might make you hesitate but in the end, you really do get a lot of value for what you purchase. But whether or not you like the brands you receive and the specific products is all up to you and how specific you are with the Beauty Quiz you take in the beginning. I am pretty happy with the Dr. Brandt and GlamGlow products, but I personally would prefer to get more higher-end, branded products and 1 or 2 smaller labels. (I really got lucky with my second FabFitFun box there – read my full review!) The other products that I received, I personally can do without the Base Sticks and brushes, but it’s always good to try a new brand as well since you can really find some gems you wouldn’t have heard about otherwise. I’m currently on the search for the best primers so I’m happy to try the marula primer out and the hydrating face mist came in handy when I was in Florida as I had just run out of toner.
Overall, BoxyCharm is definitely worth trying out at least once to see if you get products to your liking, but Canadians will probably have to take a couple things into consideration such as shipping cost and exchange rate. You can also cancel and resume your subscription service at any time so you don’t have to continuously spend and stock up on unneeded products. But it’s always nice to get a little surprise in the mail and be able to try new beauty products out!
