Some people will always stand by dupes, or more affordable items – others like to have a more luxurious lifestyle and are willing to splurge and invest in higher-end, luxury pieces with better materials that last a long time. The same goes for when it comes to beauty products – wouldn’t you want the best especially if you’re applying it on your skin? There is a multitude of products and brands to choose from with a large price range for everyone. So do drugstore skincare do the same thing as their higher-end counterparts and are luxury beauty products worth the hefty price tags that can come with them?
Firstly, it’s become my preference to only purchase luxury beauty products so I may be a little biased in this blog post. Over the years as I started out with lower-end or drugstore products when I was young and slowly worked my way into the beauty industry, having learned about the breakdown of ingredients used and the research and development that goes into it, and having gone through a skincare journey where I had to discover solutions for my skincare problems, I feel like what has really worked for me are those beauty products that are a little pricier. Here are several reasons why luxury beauty products are worth it and why it’s worth it to pamper yourself this way:
1 – Skincare Is Used Daily
Because I do an entire skincare routine twice a day, every day no matter what, I feel that I would rather use better products on my skin since I’m using so much of it. I want to ensure, to a certain extent, the quality of what I’m putting on my skin every day, whether it is skincare, makeup or both in the course of a day.

2 – Research And Development
Luxury beauty brands invest heavily in research and development to create superior products that work and have their own unique qualities that can solve your beauty problems that sometimes maybe difficult to fix. A large amount of how they develop their products involve a science-backed approach and specific delivery mechanisms to ensure that their products will provide the benefits they say they can. I know from working with brands like Dior and Guerlain, they sometimes spend decades on research and development alone before coming out with the finished product. Needless to say, this is costly not only with money but with time (and a lot of patience).
Also taking into consideration a lot of the luxury beauty brands have been around for quite a while – take Shiseido for example, it’s been around since 1897. This just shows how much expertise they have in what they do and the amount of knowledge they gained from being in the industry for so long.
3 – Better, Rare, Proprietary, And More Concentrated Ingredients
One big reason why luxury beauty products are worth purchasing is that they have active ingredients that are more highly concentrated than those available in drugstore products, which in turn provide more effective and longer-lasting results. Many beauty products contain a lot of the same ingredients, but it really depends on how much of it they put into your products, and that’s why there is such a price difference as well. They also use higher-quality ingredients that are safer for our skin (for the most part).
Luxury beauty brands also put a lot of effort into developing their own propriety blend of ingredients that is only available through them and their products. They have their own exclusive labs and even patent their ingredients or products so that no one else can create what they did. They are also invested in using newer technologies to produce the best products.
I know drugstore products that have worked really well for some people, but just because it works doesn’t mean you’re putting the best ingredients into your body. The same goes with using certain luxury beauty brands – so I highly recommend doing your research and reading on ingredients.
4 – Aesthetics And Product Packaging
This isn’t exactly a reason why I prefer to purchase luxury beauty products, but it is definitely a perk that comes with it. A lot of the prestige beauty products I buy have better-quality packaging and they also are more aesthetically pleasing. If you also like your bathroom, vanity table, or makeup bag to look nice or have a luxury feel, prestige beauty products are the way to go. And to be honest, I’ve always liked looking at my beauty products too no matter how many times I use it – you can say I’m obsessed with beauty products. Somehow, it just feels more enjoyable to use and gets me excited to use the product as well.
5 – Extensive Consumer Testing
A lot of the time, before a public launch of a product, these companies send their products out for testing for purposes of testimonials and product promotion. This may be the case for a lot of beauty products in general, but I do find that luxury beauty brands put more effort into doing this and have a large range of influencers and reviewers test and review their products before launch and help create a buzz around them. These reviewers are not required to write a positive review, but their honest review without any strings attached which I appreciate. This makes it easier for us to be genuine and honest about a product and to really promote it if we end up really liking it.
6 – Better Value In The Long Run
If the luxury beauty product you are purchasing delivers the amazing results they claim and that you are looking for, it can provide better value for the money you’re investing into it in the long run rather than purchasing multiple items that perform only mediocrely and doesn’t satisfy your needs. Although there are many alternatives that can “do the same thing”, there will obviously be varying factors as to how they differ. A lot of this involves purchasing and testing out products for yourself, determining what you really like and are willing to pay for. You will also need to apply judgment on whether something is of good value to you.
For me, I find that even though I could be paying more for luxury beauty brands, at least I know what I’m paying for – and I purchase most of them between 10-50% off anyway which makes it a really good deal in the end, and sometimes the price ends up being really close to drugstore products anyway.
7 – Luxury Beauty Products Are An Investment In Yourself
Yes, you’re paying a higher price for luxury cosmetics and prestige beauty products, but think of it as an investment in yourself. In the same way you may go to the spa to pamper yourself or get your nails done every couple of weeks, or going to get a massage to relax because you deserve it, your skin deserves it too! It’s the largest organ in your body, don’t you want to give it better quality products, especially if you use it daily? It’s also an investment in taking care of yourself and preventing or managing the negative effects of the environment and even aging. You deserve the best, so why not do the same for your skin?
